CRITERIA FOR NEWF PLACEMENT
The following criteria have been developed for use in placing Newfoundland dogs transferred to the Genesee Region Newfoundland Club (GRNC) Rescue Committee

1. The prospective Newf owner must express a willingness to provide proper food, shelter, medical care and grooming.

2. The new home must provide a safe environment, which complies with local ordinances, and adequate shelter from the cold as well as hot weather.

3. Newfs are best kept with families or individuals where they can establish a bond. Newfs are placed in private homes only.

4. Newfs must be spayed or neutered upon placement, if not already done, as stated in the Placement Agreement.

5. It is understood that, due to the usually unknown or inability to verify the background of the rescued Newf, the GRNC is unable to give any guarantees regarding health, temperament, (although rescued Newfs are carefully screened for temperament before placement), or hereditary health problems the dog may have.

6. Some rescued Newfs have previously received obedience training, some have had no formal training. We strongly recommend that all rescue dogs be enrolled in an appropriate training program – either a beginner’s course or a refresher course – at the earliest possible convenience, dependent upon the dog’s physical condition and age.

7. The usual placement fee ($350) helps defray the actual expenses incurred by the members for transporting, boarding, grooming and providing medical care for the Newfs. While there are no other fees charged, donations are gratefully accepted and can be forwarded to either of the individuals at the address below. Checks should be made payable to GRNC Newf Rescue Fund.

8. If the dog can no longer be kept, the GRNC Newf Rescue Committee must be advised of its availability.

9. If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact the chairpersons at any time. We are committed to helping you to help Newfs in need.
